Gah!!! Flashbacks!!!

I've gone all retro and am living in a flashback!

I've had First And Last And Always by Sisters of Mercy playing all afternoon - be it on my headphones when I went for a walk or on the stereo in the bedroom as I work.

God, it brings back so many memories from across the years. It is a great album and probably my favourite Sisters CD.

I'm now longing to dye my hair black, be all thin and doing the two-step at a dodgy smoke ridden goth club in the backstreets of London whilst flailing my arms about!

(I may have to dig out some of my James Ray, Ghost Dance, Marionettes and Rose of Avalanche at this rate!!)

Joking aside, we really should try and meet up for a pint sometime. It's been *WAY* too long since I've seen your good self.

You can't include the Marionettes in a list alongside the other bands you mention - they were in the third wave of goth - the others were in the second wave! ;o)

I can't actually remember when I first heard The Marionettes (they were definitely still The Sreaming Marionettes at the time though :p).

I'm pretty sure it was about '88 though (not disputing your 'third wave' comment as I totally agree on that factor).

It's funny how different people view the goth scene timewise. For some of the newbies anything from the 80's seems to fall into the 'First Wave' catergory even though there are plenty of very distinct transformations and changes that took place on the scene at the time.

I'd call myself third generation goth as I got into the music in '85 and started clubbing and gigging around '88. I wasn't there right at the start (1st Gen) nor the few years following (2nd Gen).

You got into it at about the same time I did then.
I distinctly remember seeing the Screaming Marionettes at the Pied Bull in Angel Islington way back when as I used to regularly go see a band called Victims Of The Pestilence, who weren't exactly any genre. I think the Marionettes were of the 2nd gen vintage, but not really noticed until the 3rd, but never as successful in the UK as Rosetta Stone.

Remember what my hairdresser said - you looked fucking awful with black hair!!! :P

I'm still not sure she actually remembers me to be honest as the last time I ahd black hair I was 21-22 (13 years ago!) and that hairdressers certainly wasn't open at the time - although she may have worked elsewhere on the high street I guess.

In anycase, my black hair is almost certainly a thing of the past. I may consider it again one day if I manage to get down to about 12/13 stone and can pull off some frills again :p

...which, we can both be assurred, is unlikely ever to happen...

I couldn't imagine Angus as a raven haired goth - I imagine he'd look like one of the Ramones!

I'll see you Friday at the Ballroom then. The smoking ban makes it a lot nicer and there is a hidden outside smoking area.

I'd invite you to the King's Head in Enfield Town, but I don't know if people will be ready in time for that to be worthwhile.

Maybe on for Friday. It depends on a combination of wallet and tooth.

I'd certain like to attend though.

I'm sure I can find a reason to buy you a drink or two.
