Good morning...

Was awake, and up, ubder early for an Angus with a day off this morning.

Partially because I had a restless night but also partly because I was lying awake in bed with a million thoughts buzzing round my head BUT actually felt awake enough, alive enough and motivated enough to leap from my bed in the darkness of pre-dawn and actually start doing some of them.

So far today has been a reasonably productive morning. I'm hoping this productivity manages to stay with me!

I will post up a review of 'Control' soon (don't worry discoromi I haven't forgotten :p) but wasn't feeling top form yesterday, was busy last night and also want to concentrate on getting some work done this morning as I'm on a roll and don't want to waste it!

Also *very* tempted to see Resident Evil: Extinction this weekend if anyone is up for an early morning screening on Saturday (11.15am - North Finchley VUE) and also have to track down when and where Day Watch is being played as I really think I ought to see that one on the big screen while it's out too.

Day Watch is utterly worth your time, although I'd strongly recommend watching Night Watch again before seeing it, if nothing else to remind yourself of the minor characters (And pretty much everyone from the first film is back too, often in surprising ways).
It's also the most gleefully spectacle heavy movie I've seen this year. There's a palpable delight to a lot of the set pieces and frankly, given the budget, they hand a lot of this year's big summer movies their ass in terms of effectiveness and sheer creativity. Case in point: The car being driven up the side of the hotel in the trailer? A throwaway gag.
It's incredibly good fun basicallty, from start to finish. Have to go check out the novels now.

I started to watch Night Watch again a while back but got, er, distracted and never finished it.

I have the first three books in the series and am partway through the first (although I usually juggle about 3-4 books at anytime and at present the latest dresden Files novel (White Night) which I picked up in the States is taking up most of my attention :p

It (Day Watch) does really strike me as one of the films that you *should* try and see on the big screen. Must make it so.

Probably going to bite the bullet and go and see Day Watch in Leicester Square - expensive but one of the few places showing it :( - if you fancy joining the posse for that one? Don't know when exactly yet though. It'll either be this weekend (possibly Sunday) or Monday night though.

Alternatively we could arrange a slightly later showing for Resident Evil: Extinction on Saturday and you could come and have a day in Finchley! Film, food, drinks and back in Surbiton by bedtime! :D

Day watch is completely worth seeing on the big screen, and I heartily recommend it, even though we did have some laugh out loud moments which were probably inappropriate....

The plot vs the books has been tweaked about again, but it's still a solidly good movie adaptation.

the previous neat tricks with the subtitles continue, and the end credits are nicely done too.

The extended sequence about a third in with Anton and Olga was pretty much played for laughs. But very well acted, I thought.

(I wrote DW up on my LJ a few days ago.)

it was the timotei moment in the waterfall that had us rolling about - a real WTF moment so to speak

Yeah. You could see in his face: "More weird s**t? Ah well, at least it's a bit different. Now where was I?"

It'd be either Sunday or Monday evening at VUE Leicester Square I think. It's the nicest/closest of the few cinemas that are showing it. I don't particularly want to go to Wood Green to see it, or tarvel all the way to Enfield so the choices are a bit limited :(

You game?

(I have a copy of Night Watch here if you want to borrow it or come over and watch it one evening)

As long as I get out of the hairdressers in time (very likely), I'll join you for the 11.15am showing of Resident Evil!
