Doctor Who News

Spoliers under cut and in comments about todays news

Ok, it seems that loads of people are talking about this one too - Billie Piper is to return for a few episodes of Doctor Who in Season 4 . This means the Doc will have three assistants (possibly at the same time?) in Season 4 and I've heard strong rumours that Sarah Jane might also be making an appearence again (possibly an episode with all four assistants and no Doc? The girls save the day! ;p).

Now I think this is a cool idea but there seems to be quite a bit of debate on some people's LJ's complaining about it. So i thought I'd better ask -  "what's the problem?". Why don't some of you like the idea of Rose's return?

Basically, the whole Rose story arc climaxed with the Season 2 finale - bringing her back and negating the whole angsty thing doesn't work for a lot of people, including me.

BTW, you might want to put that into a cut, a lot of people really don't want to be spoiled on this sort of thing.

I've stuck it under a cut - but to be honest it's on the front page of the BBC News website and will be most papers (especially tabloids) tomorrow and probably on the TV news as well so I think people will be hard pressed not to hear about it.

Still, happy to do my part to preserve peoples peace :p

I respected the finality of the story, and spoiling the pathos of that teary ending with Catherine Tate was bad enough without undoing it again for good measure.

It will be nice to have her back though :)

Because at the end of the arc where Rose went to the other dimension, it was pretty much stated that there was not any way for her to come back to this one. Yes the whole series is about impossible things being possible, but a stretch this far just seems to be problematic.

It really does depend on *how* she is coming back.

Perhaps it is flashbacks or meeting her before she went into the other dimension?
Or another clever way, clones, robots, centre of the TARDIS, etc?

If she is just rescued and back again then it is all wrong. Wrong, wrong wrong.

You put it so much better than I did :)

I suppose it really depends on how it's done. After all Rose is in an alternative dimension where there are reflections of the people found in "our" dimension - perhaps there's a Doctor there too and there's yer plot.

Who knows, we might even like it.

I'm fed up with the constant Rose references anyway, let alone letting the sulky whingy most-boring-assistant-ever-barring-that-strange-chap-with-the-jumpers back in again.

Her story line gave finality and it should stay that way!

(plus the fact I missed loads of episndes purely because I couldn't stand her and only started again once Martha came into it. Now she's off to Torchwood and we're stuck with Catherine Tate - possibly the only actress in the world to piss me off more than Billie.)

Kylie is in it however, albeit briefly, and she'll make it wonderful and I can ignore the rest ;p I'll forgive Russell just for that one hour of Kylie in a maid's uniform.

There are only a very few ways they could make a story about the return of Rose work well and a whole lot more ways this could go wrong. I’m hoping for the best with Rose's return.

I wrote more thoughts about this on my blog too that you’re welcome to check out if you like.
