Brief Word on Doctor Who

Hi guys and gals,

Some of you will have heard about this at Dragonmeet, others courtesy of the great World Wide Web that seemed to have pounced on it very quickly (by the time I got home from the show it had infiltarted a number of Forums and Doctor Who sites).

We, Cubicle 7 Entertainment, announced this afternoon that we have come to agreement with the BBC to produce a Doctor Who Role Playing Game under license.

David Chapman (Conspiracy X 2.0) is the Lead Developer and Writer on the project and will be maintaining a Designers throughout the process at http://heartofthetardis.blogspot.com/ and we will be looking for playtesters for the project range.

I'll certainly be posting more about this in the coming days but would like to thank the Cubicle 7 Pitch Team (which comprised of Dominic McDowall-Thomas, David Chapman, Chris Birch, Fred Hicks and myself) and the BBC (Richard, Nick and Kate) for making this possible.

Take care,

Angus Abranson

Congratulations on landing that one.

Playtesting? I'd certainly be interested.

I assume you'll keep us notified on further developments, so will watch this space.

Colour me interested.

By any chance do you need playtesters?

I had a list in my head of two/three companies I'd have been happy to see Who with if we could not get the license for any reason.

You'll be glad to know that Green Ronin was on that list :)

Thanks for the congrats, we're obviously very happy to have even less freetime than we did before and to spend even more time locked away in our rooms and not down the pub with friends :p

(um, and if you need any more writers . . .)

Congratulations, Angus, on the acquisition on the rights to the new game. Doctor Who is one of the tv series that has never been given a decent rpg, and to be honest, I suspect that this is due to the fact that the game was never produced by an Englishman or an English company that understood the "hearts and souls" :) of the concept. Cubicle 7 looks like it has got a good basis for the game, and I look forward to seeing what happens with this game design and development.

If you're looking for any playtesters for the game, I would love to be involved in this project.

Best of luck with this, and for the new year. :)

Thank you. It's certainly going to be a very interesting journey and 2008 is going to be a very busy year one way and another!

I'll post something about playtesting in the next day or two but (and I haven't headed over there yet as I foolishly checked my LJ first and only got home a little while ago) I believe we may have mentioned soemthing about playtesting on the Cubicle 7 Forums. I know we've certainly been discussing it on the C7 Staff list by the looks of my email account :p

Congratulations! Will it be available in the US? I know there's some weird licensing oddness when it comes to different territories.

There are two licensing agreements allowing the game to be sold on both sides of the pond so it will be available in the US aswell as the UK :)

Obviously I'd like to be involved to some degree, health permitting.

As would I, depending...
More importantly, this has as you said, the makings of one of the top RPGs of next year. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished book.

Above all though, congratulations upon acquiring this license. I am sure that Cubicle 7 will be able to treat it with the justice it deserves.

Will there be a call-out for freelancers at all?
Dec. 3rd, 2007 12:52 am (UTC)
We've already started to receive a fair number of emails from interested writers, editors and playtesters and will have to sort out a call-out and standardised application form/procedure in the very near future to handle various aspects of interest.

We'll certainly announce any plans on both the Cubicle 7 site as well as posting it here.

I'll keep my eyes open, then. Thanks!

Dec. 3rd, 2007 06:19 pm (UTC)
That's wonderful! I'm looking forward to watching this progress!
Dec. 3rd, 2007 11:23 pm (UTC)
Congratulations indeed.

I set up a company to try and get the licence a couple of years ago, and the experience was like swimming in treacle.
