Order of the Stick/Penny Arcade - Gary Gygax Tribrutes

Rich Burlew's 'Order of the Stick' is a fantastic RPG/Fantasy comic strip. The latest episode pays tribute to Gary Gygax.

Order of the Stick #536: E. Gary Gygax

Penny Arcade have also posted the following tribrute:

I'd personally met Gary 3 or 4 times over the years at various conventions in passing. I think we exchanged a few words at a couple of these and I was also involved in a couple of threads with him on industry lists over the last 10 or 12 years since being on email. I certainly didn't "know" him though but he was always a very recognisable figure round the convention circuit.

Without him I wouldn't have my job, my hobby or many of my friends. My life would have gone done a completely different path.

His creation, along with co-creator Dave Arneson, has shaped the world and peoples lives in more ways than they could have ever dreamed back in the early 70's. Without Dungeons & Dragons and its system mechanics (however clunky they may seem to some people) we'd never have had the Role-Playing Industry (or not atleast in the form we see it today), nor would we have had many of the computer games that have been inspired by its roots or mechanics (World of Warcraft for instance). We would also have been without a lot of literature that has been directly inspired from peoples campaigns or games over the years (Raymond E Feist's "Magician" series, Dragonlance Chronicles, The Thieves World books, etc) or has been written because the 'fantasy' market is a strong and alluring one because of it's past and current successes.

We played D&D again last night, as we usually do on a Tuesday, and it must be said that we dedicated more than one roll to the spirit of Gary.
