I Am Legend - Alternative Ending

I'd heard that the DVD release of 'I Am Legend' was going to include an alternative, darker ending.

Well, it's just over 7 minutes long and you canc urrently see it online. It's certainly worth a watch if you saw the film - and it's a shame they didn't use it in the theatrical edit.

Why do I get the feeling that a test audience of Americans blew this far superior ending?

I remember seeing Highlander 2 (I think) in both continental Europe and back in the UK and the ending was different on both of those for some reason.

They still screwed up all continuity from the first film but the continetal European ending for #2 atleast left a direct passage to a third film as opposed to the even worse Highlander 3 we ended up with :(

Thats so much better than the ending I saw. I thought the movie was fantastic until the last ten minutes then wondered what the hell happened, did they fire the script writer and cobble together a soppy ending?

I feel all happy and fuzzy now.

Go on, I dare you. I double dare you :)

I'll even buy you a drink when you're fit and healthy and back in the whirl of social activities again if you go and have a peek.

It's not *too* scary. Honest.

You trust me don't you?

:p

Have you seen the film at all yet?

I'm guessing possibly not if the book scared you.

You know the answer is only one little link away...

Hmmm, no. To me that seems more soppy than the ending they actually gave it. Having failed to effectively humanise the "vampires" earlier in the movie this jars badly. Current movie ending remains more dramatic for me (albeit skimming over the "getting the cure out" bit) - and is at least slightly more faithful to the book in that Neville actually dies at the hands of the "vampires".
