Munchkin 4E Greeting Cards

Steve Jackson Games have just released the 'Happy 4E' greeting card through their webstore which includes some special Munchkin cards (with an expiry date of 31st December 2008 so you can only use them legally in the game this year :p).

It's a nice idea and made me giggle.

Munchkin Happy 4e Greeting Card

New Release

That-which-shall-not-be-named has dropped, and dropped hard. How has this impacted you? Choose your munchkinly destiny with 4 different options and rules. Will you start a 4e game immediately? Maybe you're more cautious about scary new systems. Maybe you hated 4e before it was even out the door. Maybe you've been playing 4e for years.

No matter what, this card will aid you in your munchkinly endeavors. Isn't that what's most important?

Munchkin Happy 4e Card Rule

Using permanent ink, check one of the following boxes. You may only use the rule associated with the checked box. This card only functions on dates - or hours - with the number 4 in them. Each player may only use one greeting card per game of Munchkin.

  • We're starting a 4e game immediately.

You may have and use any one item that would otherwise be against the rules. Put this card with that item. Discard it when you lost that item.

  • We're looking at 4e . . . we may start a game later.

Each Go Up A Level card you play is now worth 2 levels. The Invoke Obscure Rules Go Up A Level card is worth 3 levels. None of these may be the winning level.

  • We, as a gaming group, shall never touch 4e.

This greeting card is now a +3.5 item. It grants a +3 bonus, and lets the player win ties, like a Warrior.

  • We will continue our 4e game as normal . . . GURPS 4e, that is!

The owner of this card may have a total of four Race and/or Class cards, with all the advantages and disadvantages associated with each.

This card, and its rules, expires on December 31, 2008.

We had fun with this one. Paul, Will, and I sat in my office and worked up the basic rules and then pulled Steve in for the final review and polish.

Munchkin rules, especially for the promo items, are more fun to write than I ever expected. It's almost as if the wackier we make a rule, the more fun it is to watch the rule in play.
