Twitter... twitter... questions?

A number of you already use Twitter and have it streamed to your LiveJournals. Yes, I have noticed it and taken note - even being the luddite I am some technological advances still catch my eye...

Anyway, it seems I have now got a Twitter account all of my own (courtesy of Dave sending me an invite a week or so ago and me finally deciding to follow the link and sign up this morning) and I was wondering how you stream it to LJ and, generally, how you use it (ok, maybe I should read the site details myself but I'm impatient and heading out in 20 minutes for some homecooked Sunday lunch courtesy of my Mother... plus it's technology and I'm no good with that!).

So, in terms that an 8-year old could understand, what do I do?

Actually scrap that as todays 8-year olds are probably already programming the next wave of nasty 'pop TV' inspired computer viruses.

So, in terms that a 90-year old could understand, what do I do?

(and don't you start telling me you have a 90-year old grandparent that is the tech king/queen of the net ok)

I think there's a genuine question of whether it's worth streaming this to LJ, as most people see a list of short cryptic remarks that don't mean much without context.

Hasn't Fred just set up some arrangement where these are kept out of his main LJ?

I haven't "set up some arrangement", I just don't do it.

There's an application called "LoudTwitter" that takes care of making a daily posting of your twitters to your LJ. If you do this, Angus, please configure it such that the list is posted behind an lj-cut; not everyone (including me) appreciates the advent of it. :)

I think I may take off the Twitter streaming to LJ as it seems largely pointless.

In terms of using Twitter...use it to listen. I have about 3 friends on twitter, but I follow about 150 people and I have about 100 followers. That's because I use it to follow people in the same industry/interests as me, and get early news from them, and people follow me for my occasional tweets on web design/social networking, etc. I see it as something semi-professional in usage.

See that shiny thing in the corner with cryptic symbols on it? Look for the wiggly string comming out of it and follow that to the wall. See that square lump on the end of the string? Yank it out of the wall. If that doesn't help much, then try turning youself off and then on again. If you still having no luck then get back to me, and I'll take you through the next steps.

Twitter is cool if you want to post to LJ but don't have internet access and if you want to txt ppl (from) abroad. I use it very very rarely, also because I have to pay for each text (I'm on PAYG).

Whatever you do, tick the option on LoudTwitter that excludes twitters with other users because nobody wants to see those.

Twitter posts being echoed to LiveJournal are 99% useless and if someone on my f-list starts doing it, I put them on the filter I reserve for people who post boring twaddle.

That said, I love Twitter -- but time-delayed twitters/tweets to LJ serve no purpose.

Yay!!!! I thought it was just me being a grumpy old man who hated twitters on LJ...
