Season 5 Doctor: All Change?

I'm going to read more into this quote than probably intended:

"Tennant has been confirmed to star in the lead role for a number of BBC One specials next year. The fifth series, with Bafta-winning writer Steven Moffat at the helm, is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC One early the following year. Moffat is to take over from current writer and executive producer, Russell T Davies, from 2010.

It's the first line "Tennant has been confirmed to star in the lead role for a number of BBC One specials next year. "

"a number of BBC One specials" - so maybe not 'all' of them.

I don't think Tennant will be the Doctor when Steven Moffat starts weaving his magic at the beginning of Season 5.

I also agree with some of my friends that Steven Moffat should bring back one of his own creations as the Doctors Companion - Sally Sparrow.

Doctor Who Finale Watched by 9.4m (BBC Online; Sunday 6th July 2008)

I find that 'a number of' is an annoying phrase used instead of 'many' - annoying in part because of the ambiguity you pinpoint.

I'd be interested to see how many people switched off/over half way through...

Or maybe they're making a 'number of' specials, and he's going to be in all of them ...

Sally being back would be very good. I really liked her as a character. I hope that they don't re-gen, the doctor is running out of lives!

Actually, both Sally Sparrow and Larry Nightingale would work rather well. I tend to prefer it when there is a mix of companion genders in the Tardis.

I suspect Tennant will indeed go-one thing I have noticed with RTD is that he tended to work with the same people both on Dr.Who and other projects a lot, and I got a very strong sense that there was a mutual sense of picking up cast members with a certain degree of loyalty to him. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Tennant were to feel it was time to move on. It would give Moffat a bit more flexibility to make his own mark on the series as well, which would be good. I am just hoping that in future there will be consistent emphasis on subtle well crafted and written stories that don't try to cram too much into an hour long episode.

You don't think they're just avoiding using the word series due to the nature of the episodes next year and that it would have seemed incredibly clumsy (not to say more likely to start rumours) if they had said "Tennant has been confirmed to star in the lead role for all of the BBC One specials next year.
