West End Games For Sale

Well the news has officially broken that West End Games and all of its IPs are up for sale.

West End has a great history and some really nice IPs amongst it's catalogue.

Regardless of my love for Torg I still think the best selling point they have is the Junta Board Game, followed by the D6 License and then Torg.

I hope they find a buyer who will manage to keep all the IPs under one roof and be able to make a go of it.

I also hope that Eric (Gibson - current owner of WEG) manages to find a suitable buyer and gets a good price for the company and/or its parts. Eric was one of the guys I hung out with at GTS 2002 (I think it 02, maybe 03/04) and he's a really nice guy. Unfortunately though the games business takes a lot of love, blood sweat and tears but is a harsh mistress and rarely gives anything back in return. We've seen various companies over the years falter and fall and many owners/designers/employees burn out and turn their backs on what should be a great industry and hobby to work and play in. Fingers crossed and the best of luck to Eric for his future.

Was that the GTS we stayed up until 6 am shooting the shit and ended up getting $1.99 steak and eggs?

I'm pretty sure it was because I have vague memoires of oversleeping and being late for meeting up with Eric and his wife and the team behind the Cyberpunk CCG (another now deceased company) for lunch on the Friday.

I'm really looking for to GenCon actually and catching up with you guys - even if it's just on the stall to say hello as I really missed not being at GTS this year :(

Yeah, definitely. I want to hear about what you're doing with Dr. Who.

Damn... Another one bites the dust.

A real shame, some of their stuff was excellent.

I think they did some cracking games, so it is always sad to hear. If only I had won the lottery recently...

I adore Junta, one of the first proper boardgames that actually encouraged role-playing the "el presidente".

The production values on the box, counters, board and cards was fairly poor, but it was a great game.

Their finest hour(s) was with Star Wars.
