The Dragonmeet Family Expands

The Dragonmeet Family Expands

With just over a day before the fun and excitement of Dragonmeet 2008 kicks off we have a special announcement to make.

We were going to leave it as a surprise for those attending on Saturday but those eager boys and girls over at Mongoose Publishing have let the cat out of the bag early. No complaints though as it’s something we’ve been itching to talk about.

Dragonmeet is expecting a little sister. A sister show that is. On Sunday 19th April 2009 the first Dragonmeet: Southwest will be taking place in Swindon and as Mongoose also mentioned “Look for other Dragonmeets popping up in a town or city near you.”

Yes, that’s right. Dragonmeet is looking at enlarging its family even further over the coming year or two. We’ll be looking at other towns and cities in different parts of the UK to see how we can support the local regional gamers and stores with a one day con in their vicinity. We have a few ideas of where we’d like to see these shows but will be investigating them further in 2009 to see which are viable in terms of good venue, easy transportation access for visitors and can support and grow the Dragonmeet community in the coming years.

We will be looking for additional helpers from gophers to GMs and those willing to run board and miniature games to local organisational staff so please keep an eye out for future announcements.

In the meantime I hope to see some of you this Saturday, 29th November, at Kensington Town Hall in London for Dragonmeet 2008. With special guests such as Ken Hite, Robin Laws, Shane Ivey, John Wick, James Wallis, Oliver Johnson & Dave Morris (the original authors of Dragon Warriors), Phil Masters and a host of artists including Ralph Horsley, Anne Stokes and Jon Hodgson – plus loads of traders, seminars, games, the Charity Auction and our new Bring & Buy Stand!

For more information please check out our website at www.dragonmeet.co.uk

Take care,

Can Dragonmeet: Slough be far behind?

I should be writing a lecture, but I couldn't resist (this, obviously, needs a lot of work):

Come friendly dragons, meet at Slough
We'll offer London respite now
And spare the indie concrete cow
Our strafing fire.

(With obvious apologies to John Betjeman)

Do you officially have more guests than delegates for Saturday yet? ;)

If they're near to London I'm sure I could help out. Depending on travel

Swindon sounds interesting but I don't want to try driving it on a Sunday morning, I'd probably want to come down on the Saturday and stop over. Any cheap hotels in the vicinity?

Belated thought on this - Swindon is, of course, the main "real-world" location for Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books, which would make a wonderful RPG setting...
