Rival Sisters Gig? :p

Angus is wondering if it'd be amusing to see if he could get The Sisters of Murphy to play at the Bull & Gate (the pub next to The Forum) on the night The Sisters are playing The Forum for all those disgruntled with von Eldritch's piss poor performances but who still want to hear the cracking back catalogue live?

Who'd be up for that if it could be swung?

how about a double bill with that Nephilim cover band I've heard about but never seen (Fields of the Stevenage or something...?) and I'd be up for it.

otherwise i could save myself money and replicate the audio quality of the Astoria gig by dropping a mono-tapeplayer down the bog, sticking my head under the water and flushing...

...the track would clearly have to be Floodland.

do you know what - i might - i think my other half and friends are going to see the sister's - but i just can't really stretch to £25 atm and i've seen them a few times before and they are rubbish... but i still love the sisters - how much for the murphies then?

I'd have to see how much the venue cost, how much the Murphys cost and how much the support band(s) would cost.

Ideally I'd like to keep it to £10 max - but I'd have to see how much everything would be.

Only an insane idea at present. But it could be a lot of fun and after seeing the Murphys they are SOOOOOOOO much better than the Sisters at present in all departments.

Excellent Scheme!

The shear irony might get me out.

Speaking of gigs, are you going to Abney Park in Electrowerks in April?

I'd love to but I think it clashes with a number of things - one of which probably means I'm actually in the States that weekend.

So probably not.

That's a good idea. You should certainly look into it.

Oh, definitely. The Sisters have sucked every time I've seen them, and I'd love to see a good Sisters gig, even if it's not actually them doing it...

I went and saw Sisters a few years ago and was horribly disappointed. It was the first time I had seen them, and Eldritch failed to impress-but really what struck me was how terribly sad it was to see a band so trapped by its back catalogue. I loved their old songs-but I wanted to hear new ones. People with a real heart for music keep making something, they keep moving forward even if not everyone likes the direction (Depeche Mode seem a shadow of themselves these days, but I still respect them).

The last new song that the Sisters released was 'Under the Gun' back in 1993. The last studio album was Vision Thing back in 1990!

They have played a few new songs in their live sets over the last few years but certainly none that I could name. The Sisters parted with their record label (Warners) back in 1997 and haven't signed to anyone else - or released anything through their own Indie label - or seemed likely to.
One rumour had it that Eldritch wanted an unrealistic amount of money advance to do another album.
It certainly doesn't seem to be about the music for Eldritch anymore and hasn't for a long time. Many people seem to feel he's only in it for the money and will keep milking the gothic-rock cash cow whilst his die-hard fans and those with fond memories keep buying tickets.
The joke that he only tours when his car starts running out of petrol is a pretty common one.

Its rather sad really.
Suzette enjoyed the concert, but then she went because she wanted to see them as she imagined they were in the past, whereas I like to see creative energy at play - while I like to hear a few old favs, I thrive on seeing a band thats alive and vibrantly doing something they love so much that they can't help but put out new material.
