BBC Sound of 2010

Now I'm back in the UK after my festive and New Years travels I've been catching up on some of the news and rpeviews of the coming year.

I've always been a fan of the BBC's "Sound of 20xx" each year and they have often predicted the rise of some of the years biggest stars and best sounds. But this year the Top 15 just isn't grabbing me beyond 'Hurts', 'Marina  and the Diamonds' (whom I'd already heard), 'Owl City' and maybe 'Two Door Cinema Club'.

Last year saw acts such as Little Boots, Passion Pit, Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine, White Lies, Empire of the Sun and La Roux all in the mix (although admittedly I tired of La Roux incredibly quickly), whilst other years have given us the likes of The Ting Tings (2008), Enter Shikari, Klaxons (both 2007), Bloc Party & The Kaiser Chiefs (both 2005), The Scissor Sisters,. Franz Ferdinand, Keane and Razorlight (all 2004), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol and 50 Cent (all 2003). Admittedly 2006 was a bit of a duff year as far as the list went, but even that spawned The Automatic!

So, the 2010 list has left me unimpressed. Whilst 2009 gave a launchpad for a host of very good artists I just can't see the same amount hitting the heights this year (seven in 2009 - maybe two or three from this years batch).

The BBC has a page for each nominated act with a video or live performance from each. If music is your thing have a look and let me know which ones you tip for the top this coming year. My top two tips definitely lay with Hurts and Marina and the Diamonds (who I think will be massive).
